I designed a A5 zine using the text from “57 Ways to Unlock Your Creative Self” by Rod Judkins. These images were created using a slow shutter speed photograph of a falling apple and a block of text repeating the work “time.”
Selfless
Graphic Design
For each chapter of the zine, I wanted to capture a single big idea.
In chapter three of “57 Ways to Unlock your Creative Self,” the title was “Keep Going...Even When You Can’t.” The example was the time it took Isaac Newton to consolidate his theories of gravity. “Newton’s idea that there was a force he later called gravity came to him in a flash when he saw an apple fall. He then spent years developing and improving the theory. I believe creativity takes time: to experiment and develop in order to solve the problem. I wanted to turn a falling apple into art as a way of capturing gravity visually. Using slow shutter speed, I created this image.
In chapter 8, the title was “Be extreme”. As a way of conveying abstraction and pushing boundaries, I used the text from that chapter and disordered the font to become more of an image than typography.
I designed spreads for two Nigerian artists - Jerry Buhari and Christopher Obuh Nelson - for a major exhibition catalgue entitled In “A Pot Of Hot Soup” for the Brunei Gallery, SOAS University of London. "Oil on a board by Jerry Buhari"
