This photography project explores plastic in still life, an exploration of light, texture and typography in plastic bags.

Beyond Plastic

Photography

By taking images of plastic bags - something that is functional and overlooked - I hoped to make something beautiful out of something ordinary by focussing on typography, colours and abstraction. However, if you asked me what my real hope was, it’s that plastic bags would no longer exist. So, my images become a recording of something that has disappeared.

I started out taking images of the ordinary. And my hope is I’ve taken images of something discontinued, that no longer damages our world.

A massive, 200-year-old Copper Beech tree fell in my garden without warning. A constant presence throughout my childhood, I wanted to capture the beauty of its transformation through weather and fire.
